This was a very big week for our little family. Adam started his second year of pre-school. Nevena started Kindergarten. Ashley went back to college and started a new job at Starbucks! Wow, can you say chaos?? Actually, it's gone really smoothly for the most part.
You might guess from the photo at right that I got Adam to school way too early on the first day. We had to wait 20 minutes in line (in really hot, steamy weather...his school day starts at 12:30 pm) and he was quite anxious to get the show on the road.
Fortunately, he was a very good sport about the whole thing and kept his cool. I was proud of him. He went right into the classroom and started playing with Mr. Potato Head. No separation anxiety for Adam!
Nevena's first day went great as well. We had visited her school for a 'sneak peek' the Friday before, so I think that was a big help. She had already met her teachers and seen the classrooms, etc. She really likes her music teacher, Mrs. Pickles. Seriously. :) She has a 'homeroom' teacher, a music teacher, an art teacher and two women who teach P.E.
What is really hilarious is that Nevena has been doing what I'm sure is extensive set of quotations / imitations of her teacher Mrs. McAlister. I like the way Mrs. McAlister explains the rules in the form of questions. It seems very well done! ;)
She has homework already! Firstly, she has to memorize a six-digit PIN number for her lunch money account. We got started on that tonight.
I'm going to have to figure out how to get some photos of Ashley...if nothing else, I can get her at Starbucks...!
I just love the feeling of back-to-school-time. I love that smell of newly sharpened pencils, fresh pads of paper, new crayons, new tennis shoes....it's all yummy and reminiscent of happy childhood days.
I always remember my Mom telling me how Fall was her very favorite season. She would always 'burst into song'! "I love the Fall, the leaves and all..." or something like that. I love how she sang in spite of being completely tone deaf. I guess people who are tone deaf are not particularly bothered by it, though, right?
I'm hoping that the new schedule will give me a couple of hours a day for things that have been too long neglected....that keep getting pushed down on the priority list until they fall off...namely, my meditation and yoga practice....art projects, etc.
Anyway, it will eventually start to feel like Fall -- weather-wise -- here in Texas, in a few weeks. I'm really embarassed to admit that I haven't even gotten my cool weather clothes organized and stored away properly from last year! It's been on my list of to-do's all summer long. Well, all I can say is that other things have taken priority. :)
