I really love some of the new work that Seth Apter is doing - check out his blog, The Altered Page.
He builds up layer upon layer and each one of them really pulls you into the piece. Here's a great example, a book cover he did recently as part of a collaborative project.
It's called "Contexture", which he has chosen as a theme for his contribution to the project and which he defines as:
1. The act of weaving or assembling parts into a whole.
2. An arrangement of interconnected parts; a structure.
3. Interconnecting text and texture.
It's just gorgeous.
Another project he's working on is Disintegration, which I have mentioned here before. I mention it again because he is looking for a few more participants! It's really simple to get in on this project. All you need to do is...
"Create a paper bundle, any way you like. Place said bundle in nature. Post a "before" picture on your blog. Watch and Wait. It is that simple. Each artist will then reveal the result in an "after" picture posted on their own blog on May 1."
Email Seth if you decide to join in so he can include you in the list of people participating.
